Meyan Learning Studio is the education brand of Meyan Group Co., Ltd., based in Tokyo with operations in Yamanashi, Japan.
We create immersive learning experiences that use English as a gateway to the world. Through outdoor adventures, cultural exploration, creative activities, and hands-on learning, children discover new countries, new perspectives, and new possibilities.
More than an English school, Meyan exists to help children grow into confident, curious, and globally minded individuals who are unafraid to stand out and ready to find their place in an increasingly connected world.
Why we created Meyan Learning Studio
Growing up in Jamaica, I often felt different. I was curious about the world beyond my own, drawn to new cultures, new ideas, and new ways of thinking. This came from having international experiences from a young age, where I would visit my family in the USA and spend summers there, or learn about different countries vicariously through my sister who was a Flight Attendant in Qatar for over five (5) years. Over time, I learned that being different wasn't something to hide—it was one of my greatest strengths.
Those experiences and exposure eventually took me from Jamaica to the United Kingdom and then to Japan, where I spent more than a decade teaching English here. Along the way, I saw firsthand how exposure to different cultures can shape the way we see ourselves, understand others, and navigate the world.
After years in Japanese classrooms, I noticed that many children were learning English as a subject, but rarely as a gateway to something bigger. English is important, but it is not the destination. It is a tool that opens doors to new ideas, cultures, opportunities, and perspectives.
I created Meyan because:
I believe children deserve more than lessons designed to improve test scores. They deserve the chance to explore the world, think independently, and develop the confidence to be themselves. My goal is not simply to teach English, but to use English as a bridge to the world—helping children grow into curious, open-minded, and confident adults who feel at home anywhere.
Founder and Managing Director's Story
Meyan Learning Studio began with a simple belief: a wider world view is one of the greatest gifts you can give a child — and it shouldn't depend on where they're born or which school they can attend.
Our founder, Deena Bent, knows this firsthand. Born in Jamaica, educated in the UK, and now a naturalized Japanese citizen, she built a life across cultures and languages — and saw how early exposure to the world shapes a confident, open, and curious adult. So she created Meyan — a place where children travel the world to learn about it, without ever leaving Yamanashi.
